A traditional Shaker kitchen with mortice and tenon doors. On this project the house had a small galley kitchen with not much space. There was a reception room next to the kitchen which was ideal for knocking through into the kitchen to make a more functional and spacious kitchen. We installed an RSJ (Rolled Steel Joist) between the two rooms so we were able to safely remove the load bearing wall. The old wooden windows on the kitchen side were replaced with new double-glazed windows. We removed all the old lead pipework and installed a downstairs WC just off the old kitchen. The kitchen was completely rewired ensuring it meets current regulations. It was also plaster boarded and re-skimmed, making it feel like a new room.

The client wanted to keep as much of the character of the house as they could, so we matched the moulding from the old pantry onto the new kitchen and made new beading for the original window behind the sink. As the kitchen is a Shaker style kitchen with granite worktops it blends well with the original features of the building. A range cooker was installed into the old chimney and goes very well with this style of kitchen, with the overmantel providing a nice feature. Herringbone Moduleo Oak effect flooring provides a really nice finish to this kitchen
